Online Application for 16th IYLC (July 2008)

This is the official application form for the International Youth Leadership Conference, Prague 2008. The official dates for this coming year's summer conference are July 20th - 25th, 2008. Please read over the following information carefully before submitting your application. If you have any questions, simply send an email to applications@czechleadership.com and you will be answered promptly.

The deadline for the last round of acceptances is July 1st, 2008. If we receive your completed application (including the short essays) by that date, you will receive an email notification of your acceptance status by July 5th, 2008.

The Application Process:

All applications must be submitted online utilising the form below.

Conference participants will be selected according to the following three criteria:

1. Educational Background (year, grade point average, and area of study)
2. Level of English (as a second language)
3. Two Short Essays (both are required)

Essay Topics:

1. What is the most important issue facing your community or the world today? What leadership skills are necessary to address this issue?

2. What do you personally hope to gain by attending the IYLC? How would you use the experience upon returning home to your community?

Essays should be approximately 250 words each and will be judged according to the following three criteria:

1. Creativity
2. Recognition of leadership qualities
3. Persuasive writing style

If English is not your mother tongue, this will definitely be taken into consideration.

The short essays do not have to be submitted at the present time. However, we do need to receive them in order to continue with the evaluation of your application. Therefore, we recommend that you email them to us at essays@czechleadership.com as soon as possible. Please note that only original essays will be considered. Essays will be checked for authenticity, therefore all references should be properly cited to avoid the denial of your application.

Student Fees:

The one-time student fee covers tuition, 5 nights accommodation in Prague, all meals, local transportation, field trips, organized activities, a friendly airport greeting, an International Youth Leadership Conference diploma and a closing ceremonies gala evening followed by an end-of-conference private party. It also includes one academic credit (one semester hour in the American system). Please see info-box below for details.

Your only extra costs will be for your own personal souvenir shopping in Prague, and any extra nights you would like to spend in Prague before or after the official conference dates (highly recommended).

ACADEMIC ACCREDITATION:

The New Anglo-American College in Prague grants one academic credit (one semester hour in the American system) for participation in the IYLC. This one credit is classed as a third year level seminar course. Note: The level of the course is needed for evaluation purposes by the institutions accepting the credit.

The New Anglo-American College in Prague is accredited by The Czech Ministry of Education. This accreditation includes the Bachelor's degree programs in Politics and Society and in Business Administration. The latter is also accredited by the European Council for Business Education (ECBE), based in Switzerland. Furthermore, the Legal Studies program, beginning in Fall 2004, has been validated by the University of Wales.

CONFERENCE FEE: €850

The conference fee includes Czech Value Added Tax (VAT).

Arriving in Prague

All international students will be met by a friendly and helpful conference representative at Prague International Airport and escorted to the conference facility. If you are arriving by train or bus, you will also be met at the corresponding bus or train station in Prague.

It is highly recommended that students budget to stay at least a couple of extra nights in Prague before or after the conference. The accommodation is reasonably priced, there are many cheap places to eat and drink in the city, and Prague is full of cultural life that definitely has to be experienced.
